Which device are you using?
If the CNN app isn't working as expected, here are some things to try:
Here's how to test your connection speed:
- Android: Download an Internet speed test app from the Google Play Store and test your connection speed.
- iOS: Download an Internet speed test app from the Apple App Store and test your connection speed.
You need a minimum download speed of 5 Mbps. If videos are buffering, see CNN buffers or pauses.
Cellular connection? If you're using a cellular data connection, try connecting to a wireless network to see if the problem still happens.
- Android: Open the Play Store on your Android device and search for CNN. If an app update is available tap Update.
- iOS: Open the App Store on your iOS device and search for CNN. If an app update is available tap Update.
- Hold down the power button until you're prompted to power off your device (turn the device off, instead of putting it in sleep mode).
- Wait 10 seconds and then turn your device back on.
- Open CNN and try streaming again.
Skip ahead if using an iOS device.
On your Android phone or tablet, do the following:
- Go to Settings on your Android device.
- Tap Search settings and type CNN.
- Tap CNN (App info) from the search results.
- Tap Storage & cache or Storage.
- Tap Clear cache.
- Open CNN, log in, and try streaming again.
These steps may vary depending on your version of the Android OS.
On your phone or tablet, delete the CNN app and then install it again from the app store.
Make sure you have the latest software on your device:
- Android: Open Settings, then tap System > System update (steps may vary depending on your version of the Android OS).
- iOS: Open Settings, then tap General > Software Update.
If you're having trouble streaming on your computer, here are some things to try:
Make sure you're using a supported browser. See Supported browsers.
If your browser is supported, update your browser to the latest version. To find out how to do this, search the Internet for 'update + the name of your browser' (i.e. update Chrome browser).
To do this, open a new browser window and search for 'Internet speed test.' Then run a speed test. You need a minimum download speed of 5 Mbps. If videos are buffering, see CNN buffers or pauses.
Try using a different supported browser.
If you can stream with a different browser, check your browser configuration:
- Make sure third-party cookies are enabled.
- Disable ad-blocking software.
- Turn off private browsing or incognito mode.
- Disable browser plug-ins, extensions, and add-ons.

Check your network status
If content buffers or is poor quality, a slow or inconsistent network connection might be the cause. To check your network status:
- On your Amazon Fire TV, go to Settings > Network.
- Press the Play button on your remote to check your network status.
To stream HD Video, you need a minimum download speed of 5 Mbps. For more help, see CNN buffers or pauses.
Update the CNN app
Make sure you have the latest version of CNN. To do this, highlight the CNN tile on your Amazon Fire TV and then press the Menu button on your remote (button with three lines). In the lower-right corner choose More Info and then Update (if available).
Restart your devices
- Unplug the power cord from your Amazon Fire TV device.
- Unplug the power from your network devices (modem, router, etc.).
- Wait 30 seconds.
- Reconnect the power to your modem and wait for it to connect to the Internet (about a minute).
- Reconnect the power to your router and wait for it to connect to the Internet.
- Plug your Amazon Fire TV back in.
- Open CNN and see if the problem is resolved.
Clear app cache and data
- On your Amazon Fire TV, go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications.
- Select CNN from the list of apps.
- Tap Force Stop.
- Select Clear cache.
- Select Clear data.
- Open CNN, log in, and see if the problem is resolved.
Uninstall and reinstall CNN
- On your Amazon Fire TV, go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications.
- Select CNN from the list of applications.
- Select Uninstall.
- Download and reinstall CNN from the Amazon Appstore.
- Open CNN, log in, and try streaming.

Download an Internet speed test app from the Apple App Store and test your connection speed (or test your download speed on a computer connected to the same network as your Apple TV. To do this, open a browser and search for 'Internet speed test').

Update the CNN app
Make sure you have the latest version of CNN. To do this, go to the App store and search for CNN. If there's an app update available, choose Update.
Restart your devices

Delete and reinstall CNN
- From the Home screen, move the selection to the CNN app.
- Press and hold the Touch surface for two seconds and then press the Play/Pause button.
- Choose Delete.
- Open the App Store on your Apple TV.
- Find the CNN app and choose Install.
- Open CNN, log in, and try streaming again.

Check your internet connection
If content buffers or is poor quality, a slow or inconsistent network connection might be the cause.

Update your software
Make sure your Roku has the latest software. Press the Home button on your Roku remote, then go to Settings > System > Software update > Check now. This will install software updates for your Roku streaming device and your channels.
Restart your devices

- Wait 30 seconds.

Delete and reinstall CNN
- On your Roku, highlight the CNN channel and press the Star button (*).
- Choose Remove channel.
- Choose Remove to confirm.
- Restart your Roku streaming player or Roku TV.
- Search for CNN in the Channel Store.
- Select Add channel.
- Open CNN, log in, and try streaming again.
